It’s been 10 years since singer/songwriter Andrey Zaporozhets introduced Sunsay, a band that built on the reggae-laden concept of his other genre-fluid project 5'nizza. Piling up layers of energetic funk, deft raps and soul-tinged vocals, Sunsay combine luminous rays from the Caribbean with urban textures from their Ukrainian home in refined, laidback world amalgams. X comprises their best moments so far, including “Mama”, which gives a Hawaiian vibe with wavy steel guitar and limber syncopated rhythms—while the tropicália-influenced “Easy” bursts at the seams with mercurial flutes and horns.
