With her best friend Willi tagging along, Maya buzzes out into the meadow on an exhilarating adventure of self-discovery. Seeking the advice of Flip the grasshopper, a charismatic and eccentric free spirit, she journeys across the dangerous meadow to find her place in the world. In her cheerful, naive way, she has a special knack for creating friendships with some unlikely insects, including the son of the bee-hating hornet. But just when Maya is feeling at home in her new life, she learns that the Royal Advisor is planning to drive the hornets from the meadow once and for all. With her new friends at her side, Maya must overcome the Advisor to prevent a nasty battle between the bees and hornets. But what can one little bee do against an entire hive?
