  • Jay-Z - Excuse Me Miss (feat. Pharrell) - Single [iTunes Version]

"Excuse Me Miss" is a song written and performed by American rapper Jay-Z. It released as a single for his seventh studio album The Blueprint 2: The Gift & the Curse (2002). It was also co-written and produced by The Neptunes, whose Pharrell sings the hook in falsetto voice. The lyrics refer to love at first sight. It contains a more mature sound in comparison of his previous songs about women such as "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)". Jay-Z sampled the 2001 hit, "Take You Out" by the late musician Luther Vandross. "Mista Hova" as he called himself also loaned a Notorious B.I.G hook from his song "Big Poppa" for this song own hook."Excuse Me Miss" was the third and final single from The Blueprint 2: The Gift & the Curse and was successful commercially. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard R&B chart in April and was nominated for best rap songwriting at the 46th Grammy Awards but lost to Eminem's Lose Yourself.[1] "Excuse Me Miss"' popularity led to it appearing on the United States version of Now That's What I Call Music!, the United Kingdom version of Now That's What I Call Music! 55. The music video for the single was released in early February 2003.The sequel to "Excuse Me Miss" was "La-La-La (Excuse Me Miss Again)" with a noticeably darker beat and lyrics and was also produced by The Neptunes. Although he starts out the album with an intro alluding to his prowess as a pimp, dealer, and hustler, the album's first song finds the southern hip-hop hard case going to great pains to illuminate the life experiences that led to his current position, ultimately observing "what I am today I made myself" before delivering the killer blow that is the song's title, "still ain't forgave myself." Its a rare rapper who's willing to take that much personal responsibility for his role in society. Even though most of the other cuts on I'M SERIOUS find him reveling in that role, T.I. possesses the narrative skill, dramatic overview, and low-key delivery that allow his gangsta boasts to go down easily.
