DMX - Grand Champ (Bonus Track Version) (iTunes Version)

Grand Champ is the fifth album by American rapper DMX, released in 2003. Grand Champ features the popular singles Where the Hood At? and Get It On The Floor. The album sold 312,000 in its first week and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album originally contained a song entitled "Ruled Out", a hard-hitting diss track aimed towards former collaborator and friend Ja Rule, however, Def Jam Recordings (who coincidentally owned the distributor rights to Rule's The Inc. Records at the time) were highly displeased by the track and urged for its removal . A previous version of "Fuck Y'all" was also considered to be the lead-off single for 'The Great Depression', but due to the obvious explicit content of the title alone, the song would have substantial problems gaining radio airplay (changing the title of the song was out of the question). On the UK edition of the album, the hit single X Gon' Give It to Ya from the 2003 film Cradle 2 the Grave is included as a bonus track."Grand Champ" was also released in an "edited" version that replaces some violence, most drug content, and all profanity with sound effects and in some instances, blanks them out completely leaving only the music. "Grand Champ" is the most highly censored of all of DMX's albums, including "Year of the Dog... Again". The explicit version censors out the words "reloaded" and "slugs" on the track, "Where The Hood At?". Only "slugs" is censored from the edited version however. The title "Grand Champ" is an explicit reference to American "street" dog fighting. The term "grand champion" refers to a fighting dog that has won at least five bouts with no losses. This was DMX's final album release on Def Jam Recordings.

DMX - It's Dark and Hell Is Hot (iTunes Version)

It's Dark and Hell is Hot is the debut album of American rapper DMX, released May 19, 1998 on Ruff Ryders Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings. The album featured four singles with music videos, "Get at Me Dog", "Stop Being Greedy", "How's It Goin' Down" and the "Ruff Ryders Anthem". The album is widely considered classic by numerous hip hop fans and critics. Before the album was released, DMX collaborated with producers Irv Gotti, P.K., Dame Grease, and Swizz Beatz. Each producer utilized their particular style while creating the album's instrumentals. It's Dark and Hell Is Hot features Gothic instrumentals created mostly by P.K.; DMX raps mostly about violence. DMX is commonly known for his rough voice; "dog barks" and "dog growls" are featured throughout the album. Many of the songs on It's Dark and Hell Is Hot are made up of dark beats and harsh lyrics, showing anticipation of violence. Compared to aggressive songs like "Intro", tracks like "Ruff Ryders' Anthem", "How's It Goin' Down" have a lighter theme and delivery. The album also features more introspective tracks including "Let Me Fly", "For My Dogs", and others. "Damien" is a story, with characters voiced by DMX highlighting the relationship between DMX and a character named Damien (who happens to be the devil), with whom the rapper makes a deal which involves committing acts of violence in return for fortune.
